The storm

When the big storm moved through Saturday afternoon and lightning was hitting all around, I turned off the computer and TV and decided to drive through the Vicksburg National Military Park to see how the storm looked from there. Here are some images I captured while riding through the park.

The most mesmerizing sight I have seen in Vicksburg in a long, long time occurred while the storm was at the top of its fury. I had made it to the Wisconsin Monument and it was remarkable to watch the water run down the many steps leading to the top of the monument. The waterfall it created was magnificent! I did not get a photo because I could not roll down my window, but a photo would not have done it justice. I guess it's one of those things you just have to see in person. I am glad I did.

  1. Your photography of centuries-still objects is uncanny, and your way of capturing the motion of lightning, a storm, fireworks is absolutely amazing.

Today, you caught perfectly that shade of yellow bitter-green that presages storm, when the light shifts and your breath changes, and the air smells of ozone and causes tingles on your arms.

I can smell the danger in the air, and the need for shelter, with the wish to look and partake even stronger.
