Quiet Time

On Tuesday, my wife, Karen, and I were able to spend some quiet time together at City Front. We got there in time to see the sun settle in for the night and a majestic palette of colors was presented to us. It was perfect for our time together. I like sharing things like this with my wife, just the chance to be together in each other's company. No words need to be said. That's nice.
After the sun went down, Karen pointed out a Great White Heron sitting on the back of a trailer parked in the water. We eased closer to him and watched him as he patiently nabbed his supper.

Then the night became spectacular! As that towboat passed by, it created waves that were topped by the golden sun, creating bands of gold rolling and rolling to shore. Oh, what a sight!

Oh, Lord, My God....

....when I in awesome wonder, consider all the worlds your hands have made. I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, thy power throughout the universe displayed!

Those are the words that sang in my head and heart Sunday afternoon while my friends Robert Walker, Jerry Rushing and I were out rambling around. I wanted to show my two friends some of my favorite photographic sights in Bovina and Edwards. The rainbow was spotted on the way home as we traveled on Hwy. 80. We took a small dirt road later on and came across the sun setting down the railroad tracks. Then the show really started! The sky and the colors changed so quickly it was hard to snap the camera fast enough. And as soon as we caught our breaths at the beauty in front of us, we turned around and were greeted by the rain wall coming toward us. It was majestic! There is no other way to describe it! All these photos were probably taken within a 45-minute span and these are just a few of the ones I took and had time to post up here. We certainly went to church Sunday night in the most wonderful cathedral imaginable! Thank you, God!

Sunset at the bridges

A recent sunset taken from the back porch of the Mississippi Welcome Center. It speaks for itself, doesn't it? Isn't God good?

Sunset at the bridges

I was so blessed to be able to see the sun set on June 29 at the Mississippi River Overlook next to the Welcome Center. The sun is setting right behind the bridges at this time of the year and offering spectacular photographic opportunities. And even if you don't take photos, the view itself is worth seeing. The cloud formations always make for a great sunset, but I have never seen a bad sunset! God makes them all a wonderful experience! Life getting you down? Feeling overwhelmed? Go watch a sunset. And know that the creator of that glorious sight is watching out for you each day...every day.....today....

Sunset at the bridges

To carry on with the theme from yesterday, this is the sunset of June 1. It shows the first photo I took and follows the progression of the sunset. A film crew from Dollarhide Film Inc. from the Jackson area was at the overlook filming this sunset for use in videos for the Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau. They hit the jackpot on this day. I enjoyed watching the folks do the video recording. It was neat to see them set up for each shot and observe the angles from which they shot. I can't wait to see the finished products. They were in town for a couple of days at the end of May filming from a helicopter. That had to have been a neat experience. I'd like to try it myself. Anybody got a helicopter?

Sunset in Vicksburg

There is no better way to spend the end of a day that reveling in God's Glory through watching a beautiful sunset. We are blessed with a wonderful one each day along the Mississippi River. These were taken from the railroad tracks above Golding Barge's new headquarters, which is on the river right past DiamondJacks Casino. They have a birdhouse erected next to the river and it was swarming with purple martins. Then out of the blue, two geese appeared and settled on the bank right near the birdhouse. They flew off into the sunset a few minutes later and that is the photo you see in the sequence. Photos just don't do the sunset justice, however, and I consider myself blessed to have seen it in person.

Sunset at Eagle Lake

My family and I really enjoy riding up to Eagle Lake and seeing the sun set. Here is a recent one taken at the public boat launch and from along Eagle Lake Shore Road. It shows God Glory at its finest, don't you think?
