Random shots from Mint Springs

Here are some more images from Mint Springs, located in the Vicksburg National Military Park. God's Glory is so amazing, isn't it?

Shoot, I ran out of week to show you more photos from Cedar Hill Cemetery! I'll show'em to you later, OK? Hey, have a nice weekend, everybody. Thanks for visiting. Send this blog to all your friends who you think may enjoy it! I would appreciate it!

Mint Springs

Here are some shots from behind the waterfall at Mint Springs. I wish I could describe the sound of the water hitting the rocks. Absolutely heaven!

Mint Springs is located in the Vicksburg National Military Park. It is accessible from Washington Street, right next to the Vicksburg National Cemetery.

Mint Springs

I took some friends to Cedar Hill Cemetery and Mint Springs this weekend to give them an opportunity to photograph some of the beautiful scenes near downtown Vicksburg. We had an awesome morning and the blog posts this week will feature photos taken Saturday morning.
Mint Springs was absolutely beautiful with lots of pure, clear water running over the fall. With all the rain we have had, I figured it would be quite a shot and I was not disappointed. This place is an absolute hidden jewel of Vicksburg! Want to go? Let me know!

In a future post, I'll take you behind the fall!

Mint Springs

Mint Springs was beautiful this weekend. Lots of water was pouring over the fall and the sound was incredible. Usually, just a trickle can be seen — and heard. Lots of greenery is springing (no pun intended) up around the springs, so it is good to see the area come to life after being dormant all winter. Long, thin green reeds abound in the area around the springs and two of the reeds can be seen as they begin their journey upwards in spirals.

Notice how the water looks in the third photo. I slowed my shutter speed down quite a bit to get the smooth effect of the water, as compared to how it looks in the other photos. I was laying down on a rock in the creek, holding my camera underneath the tree that has fallen, so I didn't know if I would get the shot or not. I did!

A neat experience is to get down near the falls and feel the mist as it hits your face. Soothing. Real soothing. There's just something about a waterfall...

Potpourri

No theme today. Just a few photos I've taken the last few weeks I just wanted to share with you.
The first is the Mint Springs photo I took Saturday. Look closely and you will notice some of the icicles I talked about in an earlier post. I hope to catch bigger ice if if ever gets real cold again and I am able to get out to the springs and shoot.
The other two pictures are of a bus located in the woods near Kings Point Ferry. Look how the tree has grown around the front left bumper. I have taken several folks to photograph this old bus because it is just not something you expect to find. I enjoy seeing how different people compose their photos and have to confess that many of them have been quite more imaginative than I have been. That just makes me try harder in working on my composition of any photo I take.

Mint Springs

[Click on each image to enlage, if you would like]

The hidden jewel of the Vicksburg National Military Park is Mint Springs,  just off Washington Street. It is a lovely area, steeped in history.  The sound of water hitting that massive rock is as peaceful a sound as I can find. I went there just recently right after a hard rain and hit pay dirt! The rain had made all the colors of the foliage so dazzling, so much better than if I had ventured there on a sunny day. I love this place.
