Many, many years ago Vicksburg had a trolley line. It's depicted for posterity in one of the Riverfront Murals. The only remnant of that bygone era that I can find are some of the tracks still visible on Howard Street, which is right next to St. Aloysius High School. If you know of any other place they are visible, please let me know.
The only place I know of with visible tracks is on that little side road connecting Cherry with . . . I think it's Drummond? The road parallel to Cherry, closer to the river with a single strip of offices on the left and the funeral home on the right. The city keeps covering the tracks where they curve around that corner from the side road onto Cherry, but they refuse to stay covered.
I didn't know there was a road where they're completely exposed. Cool! Great pics!
Interesting post, Marty ... and neat pictures. I'll keep an eye out for more remnants of tracks.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly where that is...very nice Marty!

The tracks on Howard Street between Clay and Grove are the only consistently exposed remnant with which I am familiar.
