Eagle Lake

Recent trips to Eagle Lake and the levee yielded these photos that never made it to previous Eagle Lake posts. Have you ever seen a tree with that kind of root system? And the bayou in the last two photos is one of the most picturesque shots I know of in this area. I love the green colors there.

Sunset at Eagle Lake

My family and I really enjoy riding up to Eagle Lake and seeing the sun set. Here is a recent one taken at the public boat launch and from along Eagle Lake Shore Road. It shows God Glory at its finest, don't you think?

High water at Eagle Lake

The high water around Eagle Lake really brings out the critters. Here are a few I took a few days ago along Hwy. 465 where it was not underwater and on the levee. It's not too often you can get a picture of turkeys and water lillies in the same photo. They were walking around some high water near Steele Bayou. The Great White Heron was taken in some floodwater along the road right near the gin. The cow bird made sure he could get a good view of things around him by climbing to the top of Cow Mountain.

Random shots

Here are some random shots I have taken over the last couple of weeks.

• The little white church is up near Eagle Lake right before you get on the levee heading to Lake Chotard. I love the windows.

• My friend, Janie, over at http://southernlagniappe.blogspot.com loves to take photos of cows she sees every once in a while and I took this photo for her. They were on the levee near Steele Bayou.

• The Dixon's sign is on the side of a building in Edwards, Miss. It was painted for the movie "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" starring George Clooney. 

• The bell and steeple are at Champion Hill M.B. Church near Bolton. The land was the former homestead for the Champion family. The area is famous for being the location of the Battle of Champion Hill. Lots of events are happening on the 146th anniversary of the battle on Saturday.

Wildlife at Eagle Lake

We have driven up to Eagle Lake a few times in the past couple of weeks and this is some of the wildlife we have encountered. You might want to click on the photos to enlarge them. The alligator at top is one of the big boys. I would estimate him in the 9-10 foot range. He lives in a bayou near Eagle Lake. The deer was on the levee near Eagle Lake. Notice the two nubs where he will soon have spikes. Mama Goose and Daddy Goose did not appreciate me taking photos of their children and skedaddled further into a bayou along the levee near Eagle Lake. I don't know what kind of bird the little fella is in the last photo, but it is beautiful. 

Sunset at Eagle Lake

I just finished taking a few days off and one of the treats during that time was watching the sun set over Eagle Lake. That is part of the allure of that wonderful lake — you never see a bad sunset! I didn't know the water would be warm enough for skiing just yet, but some folks must have a higher tolerance for freezing water than I do.

This sunset, to me, is God at His finest. What a wonderful way to end a day!

Eagle Lake is a beautiful and interesting place. Photo opportunities are endless. Here are three of my favorites.

Steele Bayou near Eagle Lake

The trees of Steele Bayou are spectacular to me. They are absolutely majestic. I venture there quite often in the fall when there is plenty of color to reflect off the water. Such is the case with these two photos. Me and the cows that occupy the field next to the bayou have spent many an hour watching sunrises and sunsets at the bayou. Very peaceful place.
