Rejoice! The dogwoods are blooming!
One of my favorite times of year is here! The pink dogwoods are now in bloom and the sight is a glorious one! I don't care how much gas costs, get in your car, put the windows down and pick a direction to drive in. Put down the phone, look out the window and see all the beauty around you. If you find a pink dogwood, let me know. I know of three trees in Vicksburg. Find them for yourself...they definitely are easy to spot!

More dogwoods

Bobbie Nasif's garden

The prettiest garden in Vicksburg — a must-see for me each year — is the yard of Bobbie and George Nasif on Short Cherry Street, just off Mulvihill. She has a gorgeous dogwood in her front yard and the prettiest array of flowers you will ever see. Some of them are blooming now and more will be coming later! I can't wait. What pictures! And the Nasifs are one of the nicest couples you will ever come across.
The dogwood tree in the Vicksburg National Cemetery is also pretty stunning. When it is in full bloom it presents such a powerful message standing there among the graves. The photos above were taken in the afternoon sun this past weekend. The biggest gingko tree I have ever seen is right behind this tree. Wouldn't that be something if they peaked at the same time? That would be too much for this ol' photographer's heart, I imagine.
If you decide to take a dogwood tour this weekend, don't forget the ones at the Old Court House Museum. And there are some beautiful trees in the Glenwood Circle area. There's beauty all around us...if you only look!
As an added bonus, go on over to my friend Janie's blog, http://southernlagniappe.blogspot.com. She has some delightful photos of dogwoods, and another recent post of hers, a photo trip along Hwy. 22, is an absolute treat!

Dogwoods

What a glorious weekend this was! I love when it rains for it makes some photos just pop with color! Such is the case with these dogwoods taken at the Belle of the Bends early Saturday morning. I especially like the last photo with water droplets hanging off the flowers.
The dogwoods are gorgeous now. I will post some later this week of two of my favorite trees in the area, the pink dogwood on Washington Street and the old dogwood tree in the Vicksburg National Cemetery. I took photos of them on Saturday and Sunday. I also went to Mint Springs again and am glad I did. It had a lot of water flowing over the fall and that's always a sight to see. You'll see them all later this week, so please come back and, as always, keep telling others about this site! Thanks!
