One of the most under-appreciated buildings in Vicksburg is the Warren County Courthouse. It is a beautiful structure and one of the best examples of Art Deco architecture in the state. There is some beautiful scrollwork on this building and the stairwells and light fixtures inside are magnificent. My favorite pieces of the courthouse are the big lights on the outside along the stairs leading into the courthouse. Some beautiful artwork adorn them. Most people never see this beauty for they are usually gawking at the Old Court House Museum right across the street, the crown jewel of Vicksburg. But both have a place to be appreciated. These photos were taken at dusk the other day. Drive by at night one day and admire the beauty of the lamps along the stairs. It's a pretty sight. And next time you go inside to pay your taxes or report for jury duty, take some time to look at the details of this building. You'll come to enjoy it as much as I.

Ventured up to Greenwood the other day and made a detour while there to visit the town of Money, Miss., which is just north of there. It's claim to fame is this store that is slowly disappearing as Mother Nature keeps at it. It was at this location in the mid 50s that 14-year-old Emmett Till whistled at a white woman and was later killed for it. Some folks want to tear the store down. Others want to reconstruct it. It's a piece of Mississippi's civil rights history. I just wanted to take some photos of it. I wonder how many people pass by it and never realize what occurred there? It was rainy this day. Set the mood perfectly...

Never, ever pass up a chance to shoot photographs of Margaret's Grocery on Washington Street in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The castle that the Rev. H.D. Dennis built his wife is unique in American folk art. Want to see it in person? Give me a call and I will personally take you. And if we are lucky, the reverend and his wife will be available to talk. It will be an experience you will never forget...and one I cannot get enough of. What are you waiting for?

One of the favorite photos I have taken recently is this piano that sits in the tack room of the Big Red Barn in Rolling Fork. I have photographed it many times before, but keep going back to it whenever I am in the area. I would love to know who the original owner was. Wouldn't it be something to trace the history of this piano? I wonder how many people have pounded away on its keys in its lifetime? Kind of sad that its final days are to be spent in a darkened room gathering dust. And all the while the keys of the piano are beckoning, "Tickle me...."

Lake Providence, La., has a beautiful cemetery. It's unusual in that the typical Confederate monument in most small towns is near the courthouse and not in the cemetery. That's the case here, however. It makes for a great photo in the morning sun and the United States flag flapping nearby.
