Can anyone explain the faces and weird corner statues that overlook the City of Jackson from the Lamar Life Building? The two bottom photos are what greet you at the front door.
Aren't they fascinating? If I get a chance, Marty, I'll ask my cousin who is an architect. They almost look like gargoyles, and the building something like you'd find in Gotham City! They're really quite fascinating.
Originally this was to be a Deco building, but when the architect saw St. Andrews church next door, he decided to make it more gothic to blend with the church, which is why you have such an unusual mix of both styles.
Gothic Gargoyles usually resemble demons, but to appease Jackson's more conservative nature, they made them angels and cherubs instead
